The Art of Collaboration: Why choosing wedding vendors who like working together matters!

Your wedding day is an affair woven with love, lots of ideas, and meticulous planning. As a hair and makeup artist, I’ve had the privilege of being part of countless love stories, each unique and beautiful in their own way. One crucial aspect that often gets overlooked in the wedding planning process is the synergy between vendors. I want to explore the importance of choosing vendors who genuinely enjoy working with one another and how this collaboration can enhance your special day.

Seamless Coordination

Imagine your wedding day as a symphony where each vendor plays a crucial role in creating a harmonious masterpiece. When vendors have previously worked together and enjoy working together, they seamlessly coordinate their efforts. Ideas just flow, timelines are more likely to go as planned, and our quirky habits don’t tend to seem so quirky. From your hair and makeup team understanding the importance of finishing on time, to your photographer complementing the overall aesthetic, a collaborative spirit ensures that no detail is overlooked.

Reduced Stress and Increased Accountability

Wedding planning can be a whirlwind of emotions and stress, but choosing vendors who genuinely enjoy working together can significantly reduce the pressure. A cohesive team communicates seamlessly, troubleshooting issues efficiently and ensuring that any unexpected challenges are met with a unified front. Your vendors won’t let each other drop the ball. We know how the other works and what is or isn’t the norm. We’re more likely to see inconsistencies and gaps when we know how the other typically operates. This not only alleviates stress for the vendors but also for the couple, allowing them to relax and fully immerse themselves in the joy of the moment. No tension, or uncomfortable moments ever!

Enhanced Creativity

Collaboration breeds creativity. When vendors share a positive working relationship, they are more likely to bounce ideas off each other, leading to innovative and personalized touches for your wedding. For a hair and makeup artist, this means being able to create a look that perfectly complements the overall theme and vibe of the day. When vendors are in sync, they elevate each other’s creativity, resulting in a more memorable and visually stunning experience for the couple.

Consistent Vision

When vendors share a similar vision for the overall aesthetic of the wedding, the end result is cohesive and visually stunning. A hair and makeup artist, for example, can collaborate seamlessly with a photographer to ensure that the chosen looks translate beautifully in photos. If your artist doesn’t know your photographer’s editing style, it can result in washed out makeup, or oddly enhanced features. But on the reverse, when vendors are on the same page, your wedding becomes a reflection of your unique style, with each element working together beautifully.

Positive Energy

The atmosphere on your wedding day is contagious, and vendors who enjoy working together contribute to a positive and joyful environment. From laughter during your getting ready moments to a shared sense of accomplishment. At the end of the day, a team that genuinely likes each other fosters an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie. This positive energy is palpable and adds an extra layer of magic to your special day. Think of your own work bestie, and how the work day is just exponentially better when you’re working as a team.

Final thoughts from a hair & makeup artist POV

Your wedding day is like a dance, and no one likes a dancer with two left feet! As a hair and makeup artist, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of positive collaboration, and I encourage couples to prioritize vendors who not only excel in their craft but also relish the opportunity to work seamlessly together.

These images were all shot with Laura Perez, who I’ve worked with countless times. I know she has a beautiful light an airy style and she knows I’m not afraid to share my creative ideas. While shooting this, I followed Laura around quite a bit, making sure hair was just right and helping to think of more poses and places to shoot.

We have referral lists and preferred vendors for a reason. This isn’t to say we we won’t play nice with everyone! We love to meet and work with new people as well! But, when the team behind your wedding shares a genuine connection, the result is a day that not only looks beautiful but feels comfortable and fun too.
